KATHMANDU: The Excelsior School felicitated national football team skipper Biraj Maharjan on the sidelines of the fifth Excelsior Cup here on Saturday.

Managing Director of the school Ram Basnet honoured Maharjan and also handed over Rs 25,000 to the captain of the national team that won the AFC Solidarity Cup in Malaysia last month.

After the felicitation, Maharjan, who also led the team to the 12th South Asian Games title in India, requested the school children to take both studies and sports together for a bright future. Meanwhile, Gitanjali and Siddhartha Vanasthali advanced to the final of the five-a-side football tournament.

Radiant and NIMS made it to the senior boys’ basketball final, while Greenfield and Mahamanjushree entered the junior boys’ section final. The finals are slated for Sunday.
