National tournaments from February 13

KATHMANDU: The PLA Sports Club are organising the national football and volleyball tournaments from February 13-19 in Kathmandu. In all, 10 teams -- three departmental teams, one each from five development regions and two organisers’ teams -- are expected to take part in both the men and women's tournaments, said the organisers at a press meet.

Santa Kumar Darai, organising committee president, was hopeful of Tribhuvan Army Club's participation. "We are not here to strain our relation with anybody. We have sent the invitations to all the teams and I hope they will participate," said Darai. Out of the total budget of Rs 10.5 million, the top four teams in football will receive Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 50,000, while the volleyball teams get Rs 200,000, Rs 150,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.

Meanwhile, Republican Sports Federation of Nepal demanded investigation and action over the culprits of the varoius incidents that occurred during the ongoing 11th SA Games in Dhaka, including the playing of old national anthem, the upside down hoisting of Nepali flag and the duel between the Kabaddi officials and coaches.
