APF clinch CoAS Int’l football title

Kathmandu, November 23

Nepal APF Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 3-2 and won the title of the CoAS fifth International Women’s Football Tournament here at the Army Sports Complex grounds today.

Sabitra Bhandari, Renuka Nagarkoti and skipper Sajana Bhandari netted a goal each for APF, while Sapana Lama and Krishna Khatri scored one apiece for TAC.

Bhandari opened the scoring for APF in the second minute before TAC’s Lama levelled the tally in the 32nd minute.

Nagarkoti found the back of the nets in the 42nd minute to regain the lead for APF. Rana then made it 3-1 in the 69th minute.

TAC’s Khatri cut the deficit in the injury time but that was too late for the hosts to stage a come back in the game.

Champions APF got Rs 300,000 and runners-up TAC received Rs 150,000. Similarly, losing semi-finalists Nepal Police Club and Central Region earned Rs 50,000 each.

TAC’s Sapana Lama was named the best player of the tournament and got a Yamaha scooter, while the highest goal scorer Sabitra Bhandari of APF took home Rs 25,000. Bhandari netted 12 goals in the tournament.

Meanwhile, APF’s Man Maya Limbu and Anjila Tumbampo bagged the best defender and goalkeeper awards respectively, while TAC’s Krishna Khatri was awarded with the best forward and Dipa Rai was named the best midfielder. APF’s Janak Singh was named the best coach of the tournament. The individual award winners got Rs 10,000 each.

Chief of the Army Staff Gen Rajendra Chhetri handed over the prizes to the winners.
