Nepal assured of two badminton medals

DHAKA: Nepal are assured of at least two bronze medals at the 11th South Asian Games after both the men and women's badminton teams received byes in the quarter-finals on Friday. In the six-nation men's team event, Nepal were drawn directly in the semi-finals against the winners of Saturday's quarter-final match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The semi-final matches are scheduled at the Wooden Floor Gymnasium on January 2.

Likewise, the Nepali women team also had bye in the quarter-finals, meaning they are also certain to earn at least the bronze. In the five-nation women's team event, Nepal were drawn directly in the January 1 semi-finals. Nepal will meet badminton stronghold India for a place in the women's team event final. India also received a bye in the quarter-finals.
