Nepal boys’ team finishes second

Bangladesh and India won the titles, while Nepali boys’ team finished second in the South Asia Qualifying Event for the ITF Asian U-12 Team Competition here at the Satdobato Tennis Complex today.

Bangladesh won the boys’ category title, while India claimed the title of the girls’ category. In the boys’ final, Bangladesh registered a 3-0 victory over Nepal. Bangladesh’s Md Roman Hossain saw off Aarav Samrat Hada 6-3, 6-2, while Mahadi Hasan Alve defeated Aryan Giri 6-2, 6-2 in the singles matches. Similarly, the pair of Md Roman Hossain and Zubaed Utsho beat Nepali duo of Aarav Samrat Hada and Aki Zuben Rawat 6-3, 6-3 in the doubles match.

As finalists of the tournament, Nepal and Bangladesh had already earned berths for the ITF Asian U-12 Team Competition to be held in Kazakhstan in December.

India finished third with a 3-0 win over Bhutan. Krishang Raghuvanshi registered a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Thinley Dorji and Ayushman Arjeria saw off Jigme Norbu 6-1, 6-0 in the singles matches, while the pair of Ayushman Arjeria and Nithis Baalaji Latha Nallusamy defeated Thinley Dorji and Jigme Norbu 6-0, 6-0 in the doubles category match.

Similarly, India thrashed Sri Lanka 3-0 to win the girls’ section title. Sweta Samanta saw off Dewmini Warnasuriya 6-0, 6-0 and Anjali Rathi beat Heshani Imanga 6-1, 6-1 in the singles matches, while the India duo of Shruti Ahlawat and Anjali Rathi beat Heshani Imanga and Dewmini Warnasuriya 6-0, 6-0 in the doubles match.

Nepal finished third in the girls’ section with a 3-0 win against Bangladesh. Sharvani Shrestha saw off Dipanita Mittra 6-2, 6-0 and Isha Shree Shah defeated Sadia Afrin 6-2, 6-1 in the singles matches, while the pair of Shubhangee Laxmi Shah and Sharvani Shrestha beat Bangladeshi duo of Mashfia Afrin and Dipanita Mittra 6-1, 6-2 in the doubles match.

A total of 37 players, 20 in boys and 17 in girls sections, took part in the tournament organised by the All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association. ANLTA President Jyoti Rana among others handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament. Rana also congratulated the winners and thanked the supporters for making the event a grand success. “The boys’ team has made it to the ITF Asian U-12 Team Competition, while the girls’ team bagged bronze medal. The achievements are commendable and we hope they would put in their best in Kazakhstan,” she added.
