KATHMANDU: Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC) claimed the Akhil Cup Inter-college Football Tournament with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Xavier International College here today.

NCC took the early fifth minute lead from Indra Bogati. NCC then doubled their lead in the 50th minute courtesy an own goal from Ramesh Dangal. Xavier, managed by the former Nepali international Hari Khadka, squandered quite a few opportunities which could have brought them back in the match.

But Siddhi Shrestha then completed the rout scoring in the 65th minute. NCC also pocketed Rs 50,000 while Xavier had to content themselves with Rs 30,000. Bogati was named the best forward of the tournament.

Earlier in the third-place playoff, title favourites Golden Gate International College eased past Patan Multiple Campus 4-1. Shiva Shrestha, who was also adjudged the best midfielder, gave Golden Gate the lead in the 27th minute but Patan levelled the scores five minutes later through Subhash Gurung. Golden Gate went to the second half with a 2-1 lead after Shiva struck again in the 42nd.

Golden Gate team, who fielded ANFA Academy players, had no trouble to overcome Patan in the second half adding two more goals. Bishal Rai extended the team's lead in the 53rd minute and another ANFA product Sujal Shrestha sealed the match scoring in the 80th minute.

Golden Gate took home Rs 20,000. Naveen Shrestha and Saroj Dahal of NCC were declared the best goalkeeper and defenders respectively. The CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, Tribhuvan University Rector Dr Surya Lal Amatya and All Nepal Football Association President Ganesh Thapa gave away the prizes.
