Nepal confirmed for Emerging Teams Cup

Kathmandu, February 24

Nepal have been confirmed as one of the eight participants in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup 2017 to be held next month in Bangladesh.

Nepal, who will play against Kenya in the ICC World Cricket League Championship at home on March 11 and 13, will travel to Bangladesh to play in the tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council, informed former Cricket Association of Nepal CEO Bhawana Ghimire, who has been looking after the logistics of national teams following the suspension of CAN Membership by the International Cricket Council.

"Nepal were scheduled to take part in the tournament and all of a sudden we were removed from the event. After talking with the national team members and other concerned officials, I had inquired with the ACC about Nepal's participation. And now I have received an email of confirmation from the organisers," Ghimire added. Nepal along with other three nations were out of the tournament after the ACC decided to include only the teams with ODI status.

After the confirmation from the ACC, the national teams from Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Afghanistan will take part in the tournament along with the U-23 teams from the four Test-playing nations of the region-India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The event will be held from March 25 to April 3 in Bangladesh.
