Nepal crash out of U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship
Kathmandu, April 28
Nepali youth team crashed out of the AFC U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship (South and Central) following their second straight defeat at the Aviator Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan today.
Nepal, the runners-up in the previous edition of the tournament on home soil earlier this year, suffered a 9-0 defeat against Bangladesh. Nepal had opened the campaign with a 9-0 loss at the hands of India on Tuesday. With the win Bangladesh progressed to the semi-finals as Group B winners with six points, while India advanced as runners-up.
Skipper Marzia and Anuching Mogini completed their hat-tricks, while Tohura scored a brace and Sajeda netted one for Bangladesh. Mariza put Bangladesh ahead with a goal in the third minute and doubled the lead in the 15th minute. Mogini made it 3-0 three minutes later and netted her second in the 29th minute. Bangladesh went into the break with a 5-0 lead after Sajeda scored in the 34th minute.
Bangladesh dominated the field throughout the match and added four more goals in the second half. Mogini completed her hat-trick in the 39th minute, while Tohura scored two goals in three minutes -- in the 63rd and 66th -- to make it 8-0. Skipper Mariza completed the scoring in the 69th minute with her third goal of the match.
Nepal’s coach Binod Lama said the girls improved their game than the previous match but could not avert the defeat. “Bangladesh played better than India and we also put in an improved performance than the first match. We could not cope with the opponents’ pressure and ended up with a huge loss,” Lama told ANFA’s website.
