Nepal enter final

KATHMANDU: The Nepali women’s team advanced to the Division-III final of the 24th Asian Table Tennis Championship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on Monday.

In the round-robin team event of the third division countries, the Nepali team of Nabita Shrestha, Elina Maharjan and Sikka Suwal registered identical 3-0 wins over Jordan and Turkmenistan, informed team manager Dharma Man Bajracharya.

Nepal fell in Division-III — countries ranked from 16 to 24 after the league round — after they faced 3-0 defeats at the hands of Macau and Iran in the league round matches.

Nepal will now play against hosts Indonesia for the 16th place. This is the best ever performance of Nepali women table tennis team and they will also get maiden trophy if they beat Indonesia.

In men’s section, the Nepali team defeated Turkmenistan 3-1. Santoo  Shrestha registered double victories and Samyog Kapali earned one, while Amar Lal Malla faced defeat.

In another match, Nepal faced a 3-0 defeat against Thailand.
