Nepal go down to India

Kathmandu, September 29

Nepal faced a 171-run defeat at the hands of India in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup match in Savar, Bangladesh today.

Batting first, India amassed 304-9 in their allotted 50 overs before Nepal were packed for 133 runs in 36.5 overs. Skipper Aasif Sheikh top scored for Nepal with 25 runs, while Rohit Kumar Paudel scored 24.

Sandeep Jora (20), Ravi Shah (16) and Rabindra Jung Shahi also scored in double figures but Nepal crumbled after half way stage losing last six wickets for a paltry 30 runs in 10 overs.

Harsh Tyagi (3-21) and Siddharth Ajaybhai Desai (3-19) shared six wickets between them, while Mohit Jangra took two wickets. Ajay Gangapuram and Ayush Badoni claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a magnificent century and Prab Simran Singh made a quick fire half century to help India post a huge total. Jaisal scored 104 off 113 balls hitting eight fours and five sixes, while Singh clobbered six boundaries and three sixes in his 61-ball 82.

Ayush Badoni scored 33 off 23 balls hitting three fours a six, while Devdutt Padikkal scored 43-ball 30 and Mohit Jangra struck one each four and six in his 16-ball 19.

Bhim Sharki was the pick of the Nepali bowlers taking 4-42 from seven overs, while Rashid Khan took 2-45. Kamal Singh Airee, Pawan Sarraf and Sagar Dhakal took one wicket each.

In other matches, Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by six wickets, Afghanistan recorded a five-wicket victory over the UAE, and Pakistan defeated Hong Kong by nine wickets. Nepal will take on Afghanistan in their second match on October 1.
