NPC teams off to winning start

Kathmandu, April 11

Both the teams of Nepal Police Club made winning starts in the third RBB-NVA Women and Men Club League Volleyball Tournament here at the NSC covered hall on Tuesday.

In the women’s category, NPC recorded a straight-set victory over Tribhuvan Army Club. NPC took the first set 25-21 before taking the tough second 34-32. NPC dominated the third set from the beginning and won it 25-17. In another match, Nepal APF Club thrashed Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre 25-7, 25-7, 25-4.

In men’s section, NPC registered a hard-fought 3-2 victory over APF. NPC won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16. However, APF bounced back to win the next two sets 25-23 and 25-21 to keep their hopes alive. Both the teams went neck-to-neck in the final set before the Policemen won it 16-14 to start the tournament with a win.

In other matches, Tribhuvan Army Club defeated Help Nepal Sports Club 25-11, 25-10, 25-17, while the latter bounced back to record a 25-12, 25-18, 25-18 victory over Dhorpatan Sports Club. Earlier, National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista inaugurated the tournament.

Eight men’s teams and six in women’s section are competing in the tournament. Top four teams in the both categories will receive Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The best player will be awarded with Rs 15,000, while the best libero, server, blocker, lifter, spiker and coach will get Rs 5,000 each.

Meanwhile, Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation sponsored the first prize of the women’s category, while former volleyball player Deepak Thapa provided the Nepal Volleyball Association with Rs 50,000 for the tournament.
