Nepal SBI, NMB, NIC join Nabil in last four
KATHMANDU: Four banks — Nabil, Nepal SBI, NMB and NIC — made it to the semi-finals of the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes Cricket Tournament here at the TU Stadium today.
Nabil Bank cruised to the last four with a hundred per cent winning record after their three-wicket victory over Surya Nepal in the Group D Super League match today. Nabil was the only team to earn a maximum six points from the Super League stage. Electing to bat first, Surya Nepal scored 56-1 in five overs, thanks to a 15-ball 34 not out from Trishakti Rana. Nabil surpassed the total losing three wickets in 3.5 overs. Laxman Charan Joshi scored 25 off 11 balls and Abhisek Pokharel made an unbeaten 16 from 10 balls for Nabil.
In the Group A, Nepal SBI advanced on better run rates despite Citizens International Bank defeating Spice Nepal by 20 runs. Both SBI and Citizens ended with equal four points. Batting first, Citizens made 72-1 with Amit Khanal scoring 12-ball 25 and Roshan Malla hitting 22 off 13 balls. In reply, Spice Nepal could only muster 52-1. Ranjan Sharma top scored for Spice Nepal with 12-ball 23 and Prajwol Prajapati made 17 off 14 deliveries.
Earlier, Spice Nepal lost to Nepal Investment Bank by five runs. Investment Bank made 53-3 and bowled out Spice Nepal for 48 runs in the last ball of their innings. Nirajan Rana top scored for Investment Bank with an unbeaten 28 from 17 balls.
In Group B, NMB Bank also advanced to the last eight on better run rates despite finishing on equal four points with Himalayan Bank and Indian Embassy, who lost their last match by six wickets against the Himalayan Bank. NMB hammered Bank of Asia Nepal (BoAN) by six wickets in a crucial match today to pave way for the semi-finals. BoAN scored a meagre 41-4 with Santosh Rathi contributing 21 to their total. NMB overcame the total without losing a wicket in four overs. Mohan KC struck an unbeaten 22 off 12 balls and Ujjwal Pradhan chipped in with 12-ball 16 for NMB.
Indian Embassy scored 49-5 with Alok Kumar contributing 15 and NC Khuman chipping in with 14 runs. In reply, Himalayan Bank chased the total without losing wicket in just 2.4 overs. Raj Shrestha struck unbeaten 21 off 11 balls for Himalayan Bank.
The Group C ended on a three-way tie with NIC Bank, Laxmi Bank and Standard Chartered Bank all accumulating three points each. But NIC advanced to the last four on better run rate after defeating Laxmi Bank by six wickets today. Laxmi Bank scored 44-3 and NIC surpassed the total without losing a wicket in 4.1 overs. Sujan Rai scored 11-ball 21 and Ankit remained unbeaten on 11 runs for NIC.
