Nepal take on Netherlands

Kathmandu, March 16

Nepal, who confirmed the One Day International status on Thursday, will take on the Netherlands in the seventh-place playoff match of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers at the Kwekwe Sports Club in Zimbabwe on Saturday.

Since both Nepal and Netherlands have already confirmed their ODI status, the two teams will fight it out for the seventh place. Nepal confirmed their meeting with the Netherlands after beating Papua New Guinea by six wickets on Thursday. Similarly, Netherlands, who got ODI status after winning the ICC World Cricket League Championship last year, defeated Hong Kong by 44 runs on Thursday in another match. The Netherlands’ victory over Hong Kong confirmed Nepal’s ODI status.

So far, Nepal and Netherlands have played four List A matches in the last four years with both the teams winning two matches each. During the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand, Netherlands defeated Nepal by seven wickets but Nepal registered a two-wicket victory in the ICC World Cricket League Division-II match in Namibia in 2015.

Similarly, the Netherlands recorded a seven-wicket win in the first of the ICC World Cricket League Championship’s fourth round matches in 2016 before Nepal bounced back to win second game by 19 runs.
