Nepali archers win bronze medals in Dhaka

Kathmandu, March 26

Nepal bagged two bronze medals in the third South Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka, Bangladesh today.

Nepal won the medals in mixed team recurve event and men’s team compound events. In mixed recurve event, Nepali duo of Tilak Pun Magar and Gyanu Awale beat Sri Lankan team in the one-arrow shoot-off after both the team were tied at 4-4 in regulation play.

The Nepali archers scored five points in the shoot-off, while Sri Lankan players managed four. The Nepali team fought for the bronze medal after facing a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the eliminator round.

In compound section, the team of Hom BahadurThapa Magar, Prajeet Kumar Agrawal and Abhishek Raj Pradhan defeated Sri Lankan team 208-157 to win the bronze medal. In the eliminator round, Nepal went down to India 224-204.

Nepal returned empty handed in men’s recurve team event. The team of Prem Prasad Pun, Tilak Pun and Min Prasad Gauchan faced a 5-4 defeat in shoot-off against Sri Lanka after they were tied at 4-4 in the regulation play. In the eliminator round, Nepal went down to Bangladesh by the score of 6-0.

In women’s section, Nepali team of Gyanu Awale, Aisha Tamang and Tamanna Chhetri suffered a 6-2 defeat against Sri Lanka in the bronze medal match. Earlier, Nepal lost 6-0 against Bangladesh in the eliminator round.
