Nepali shuttlers’ challenge over after Day-III

Nepal’s challenge in the Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Badminton Series was over after the third day as all the 21 shuttlers were out of the competition.
Ratnajit Tamang, Sichhya Shrestha and Megha Chand had made it to the quarter-finals in singles categories, while six pairs were in contention in doubles. Tamang faced a straight set defeat of 21-18, 21-17 at the hands of Siddharath Thakur of India in the men’s singles match, while Shrestha lost 21-6, 21-12 against Vietnam’s Thuy Linh Nguyen in women’s singles quarter-final encounter.
Likewise, Chand — who was in last eight without hitting the shuttlecork — lost 21-8, 21-7 to Vietnam’s Thi Phuong Thuy Tran.
In women’s doubles, the pair of Pooja Shrestha and Nangsal Tamang suffered a 21-7, 21-5 defeat against India duo of Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvisha S Ram, while Shova Gauchan and Anu Maya Rai faced a 21-7, 21-13 defeat at the hands of Bangladeshi duo of Aktar Shapla and Alina Sultana. Likewise, Dipesh Dhami and Ratnajit Tamang faced a 21-16, 21-18 defeat at the hands of Pakistani pair of Rizwan Azam and Sulehri Kashif Ali in men’s doubles section.
Tamang siblings Ratnajit and Nangsal lost 21-13, 19-21, 21-10 at the hands of Indian pair of Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh, whereas Bijeet Thapa and Sichhya Shrestha lost 21-8, 21-11 to India’s Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan, and Bishnu Katwal and Amita Giri suffered a 21-12, 21-14 loss against Bangladesh’s Mohammad Salman Khan and Anila Sultana in mixed doubles.
In other men’s singles matches, India’s Abhishek Yelegar defeated Rizwan Azam of Pakistan 21-11, 21-14, while Duc Phat Le of Vietnam beat Bangladesh’s Tushar Krishna Roy 21-10, 21-11, and Cao Cuong Pham of Vietnam outplayed Bangladesh’s Mohammad Salman Khan 21-8, 21-5 to enter the last four.
In women’s singles, Devi Yunita Indah Sari of Indonesia beat Pakistan’s Mahoor Shahzad 21-14, 21-15 and Aghaei Hajiagha Soraya of Iran outplayed Pakistan’s Palwasha Bashir 21-12, 21-13.
