Nepali shuttlers lose all singles matches

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s performance in the Asian Youth U-16 Badminton Championship was disappointing with all the shuttlers losing their single matches in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Anup Gurung lost 21-16, 21-14 to Liagjamio B of Singapore. Bilal Warsi also lost in straight sets of 21-11, 21-13 to Mohammad Adib Nurjawan of Malaysia. Dipesh Dhami and Irfan Ansari also lost their matches. Dipesh went down 21-16, 21-9 to second seeded Carlo Angessa of Hong Kong.

Irfan was defeated by eighth seeded Malaysian John Kinmei 21-10, 21-11. On Thursday, the pair of Dipesh and Anup Gurung’ reached the boys’ doubles last 16.

Nepali team coach Megh Raj Kathayat said the youngsters performed to their

potentials. He also figured out the strength in foreign players. “I have to say the

draw was pretty difficult for us. We played against some of the best players in the tournament who gave high quality performances,” added Kathayat.
