Nepali teams enter finals, qualify

Nepali teams advanced to the finals of the South Asian Qualifying Tournament and earned berths in the ITF Asia U-12 Team Competition along with the teams from India, here today.

In boys' semi-final match, Nepal defeated Pakistan 2-1. In singles events, Aki Zuben Rawat defeated Muhammad Huzaifa Khan 6-3, 6-3 before Hamid Israr beat Aarav Samrat Hada 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-0 to level the scores. Hada and Rawat then defeated the Pakistani pair of Israr and Khan 6-2, 6-2 to seal the victory.

The Nepali team will face India, who beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in another semi-final match. India's Harsh Fogatt beat Thilina W Dissanayake 6-0, 6-0 and Vansh Nandal defeated Vichinthya SR Nilaweera 6-2, 6-2.

In girls' section, Nepal beat Sri Lanka 2-0 and set date with India. In singles events, Aaza Regmi defeated Ruvi Rajakaruna Lewkebandara 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 and Nepal sealed the victory when TA Hasali R Gajaba retired hurt while trailing 1-4 against Subhangee Laxmi Shah in another match.

In another semi-final match, India defeated Bhutan 2-0. Indian players Durganshi and Anjali Rathi bagged double bagels against their Bhutanese opponents Karma Yuden Dorji and Tenzing Wangsel Lhaden respectively. The finals are slated for Friday. All four finalists earned berths in the ITF Asia U-12 Team Competition slated for November in Kazakhstan.
