Raju Rai Erawan was crowned champion at the Gorkhali Championship Promotion held at LoD Nepal, Kathmandu, on Saturday.
Erawan defeated seasoned Thai fighter Parinya Taenonfaw in the 57kg category by unanimous decision. Taenonfaw entered the bout with an extensive record of 100 fights, boasting 62 wins and 38 losses.
In contrast, Erawan came into the match with 19 fights under his belt, including 17 victories. This win marks his first international triumph and is considered a significant achievement for Nepali Muay Thai on the global stage, the organisers Gorkhali Championship said in a press release.
Active in the sport since 2009, Erawan has won three national championships, including the WBC Muay Thai National title, and has represented Nepal in multiple international competitions. He also runs Erawan Muay Thai Fight Gym in Bansbari Chakrapath, Kathmandu.
