KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 31

Nepal Police has formed yet another five-member probe committee under the coordination of Deputy Inspector General Puja Singh to investigate the mysterious rape and murder of 13-year-old Niramala Pant of Kanchanpur.

Only a few days ago, newly-appointed Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane of Rastriya Swotantra Party, upon assuming office at Singha Durbar had said that he would work to find the culprit(s) behind Nirmala's rape and subsequent murder on 26 July 2018.

Nirmals's case has become a topic of national interest while the culprit is yet to be booked.

Nearly a dozen government-formed probe committees have already investigated the case, but failed to reach any solid conclusion.

The committee formed at the directive of the home minister comprises Superintendent of Police Kamal Thapa of Central Investigation Bureau, Inspector Dhirendra Rokaya and a medical doctor as well. The probe team leader Singh is also currently at the CIB. The team will be handed over all the achievements made into the case so far to initiate the investigation process in a new way.

According to Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police Tek Prasad Rai, the committee is headed by DIG Puja Singh, who is currently working at the Central Investigation Bureau. She was deputed in the previous investigation of the same rape and murder case.
