Lalitpur, February 9

Nepal Police Club won three gold medals on the opening day of the second Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Memorial Karate Tournament here at the International Sports Complex today.

NPC karateka Chanchala Danuwar won women's singles kata before leading her team to gold medal in team event. Pushpaka Lama then bagged gold in women's 45kg weight category.

Lama defeated Tribhuvan Army Club karateka Mamata Maharjan 4-1 in final at the National Karate Academy hall.

Deepa Lama of Nepal APF Club and Pratima Lama of Province-I finished joint third.

Danuwar finished first in women's singles kata ahead of Karnali's Alisha Rosika Magar, while Bagmati's Mira Khati and Roshma Rai of Province-I won bronze medals. In team kata, TAC won silver after they finished behind NPC, while APF and Bagmati came joint third.

APF won gold medals in men's kata. Sonim Manandhar finished first in men's singles, while NPC's Mahasus Moktan came second. Rehan Javed of Bagmati and Bijay Limbunof TAC finished joint third. Manandhar and his APF karatekas won team event gold. NPC came second, while TAC and Province-I bagged bronze medals.

Players from 10 teams - seven provinces and three departmental clubs - are taking part in the three-day tournament organised by Lalitpur Main Dojo.

Top two teams will receive Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively, while medallists will also get cash prizes. Earlier, former deputy Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka inaugurated the tournament.
