NPC, New Horizon sail into semi-finals

Nepal Police Club (NPC) and New Horizon Club advanced to the semi-finals of the first Ruslan Cup Cricket Tournament here on Thursday.

In the matches played at TU Cricket grounds, NPC thrashed Makawanpur Cricket Club by 10 wickets, while New Horizon defeated hosts Ruslan Kathmandu Cricket Training Centre (KCTC) by six wickets.

The two teams joined departmental clubs Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal APF Club in the last four.

In the first quarter-final match, Makawanpur were bowled out for 112 runs in 19.5 overs, while NPC raced to 116 without loss in 15 overs.

NPC opener Sunil Dhamala remained unbeaten on 55 off 49 balls that included five fours and two sixes, while man-of-the-match Shankar Rana scored 51 not out off 42 balls with six fours and a six.

Earlier, Sahil Kansakar top scored for Makawanpur with 26 off 33 balls that included two fours and a six, while Rabin Gurung scored 22 off 17 balls with four fours and Suman Sunar made 19 off 28 balls.

Lalit Bhandari was the pick of the NPC bowlers taking three wickets, while Prem Tamang and Manjeet Shrestha grabbed two each.

Sushil Kandel and Dipendra Singh Airee took a wicket apiece.

In another match, KCTC were bowled out for 96 runs in 19 overs after the hosts opted to bat first, while New Horizon reached 100-4 in 16.4 overs.

Aadil Khan top scored for KCTC with 18 off 15 balls that included a four and a six, while Sanjay Basnet scored 17 off 19 balls.

Aschal Chaudhary and Dilip Yadav scored 10 runs each. Susan Bhari of New Horizon finished with 4-8 in four overs, while Devendra Somare claimed three wickets, Dhiraj Shahi and Bishal Sunar took a wicket apiece.

In reply, New Horizon overcame a bad start to register a comfortable win. Nirmal Thapa top scored for New Horizon with 31 off 36 balls, while Prakash KC remained unbeaten on 23 off 11 balls that included five fours.

Sandeep Sunar (14) and Susan Bhari (10) were other run contributors. Robin Chhetri claimed two wickets, while Nandan Yadav and Dilip Yadav grabbed a wicket apiece for KCTC.
