NRT stun NPC, enter quarters

The 10-man New Road Team came from a goal down to beat Nepal Police Club 2-1 in extra time and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Rumpum Jhapa Gold Cup here at the Domalal Stadium today.
Ashok Thapa Magar and Raj Paudel scored a goal each for NRT after NPC took early lead through Bikram Dhimal’s goal. NPC adopted attacking approach and Dhimal opened the scoring in the 31st minute.
NRT faced another blow in the second half after they were reduced to 10 men after glovesman Ashok Baral received the marching orders in the 83rd minute. However, Magar levelled the tally in the injury time of second half and the winners were decided through extra time.
Paudel found the back of the nets in the 104th minute to guide NRT to a stunning win over the departmental side. NRT’s Ashok Thapa Magar was named the man-of-the-match and received Rs 7,000 from Max Housing Pvt Ltd.
Spectator Kumar Yaksol got Rs 5,000 from Expert Education and Visa Service after he was named the man-of-the-day.
On Monday, Himalayan Sherpa Club will play against Nepal APF Club.
