NSC Championship from November 1

National Sports Council today decided to organise the NSC Championship from November 1.

The meeting of NSC Championship Organising and Management Committee, chaired by its coordinator and NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista at the International Sports Complex, decided to hold the championship, informed NSC Press Advisor Rohit Dahal. The meeting also picked peacock as the mascot of the championship.

The championship will feature 27 sports disciplines — golf, swimming, archery, sepak takraw, lawn tennis, cycling, triathlon, shooting, wrestling, judo, kho-kho, boxing, squash, wushu, table tennis, handball, football, volleyball, karate, taekwondo, athletics, kabaddi, badminton, basketball, weightlifting, hockey and fencing — and will involve around 2,500 athletes.

According to Dahal, the championship will serve as the selection event for the national teams for the 13th South Asian Games and 18th Asian Games. The NSC will allocate budget and the national associations will be the organisers of their respective sports disciplines. The estimated budget for the championship is Rs 43.1 million.
