NSJF to present LG PoY awards today

Kathmandu, July 30 :

Nepal Sports Journalists’ Forum (NSJF) is presenting the winners of the LG Players of the Year awards amidst a programme at Soaltee Crowne Plaza on Monday. The NSJF will unveil the winner in each of the five categories — male, female, Youth, coach and lifetime achievement.

The NSJF added two new categories this year — coach of the year and lifetime achievement categories — to that of the previous three awards. The nominees in the LG PoY men’s section include cricketers Kanishka Chaugain, Paresh Lohani and Binod Das, athlete Devi Bahadur Basnet and footballer Pradeep Maharjan. Athlete Rajendra Bhandari won the men’s section award last year.

Nominees in the women’s section are Puja Shrestha/Sumina Shrestha (badminton), Lila Adhikari (Judo) and Keshari Chaudhary, Nirmala Bharati and Chandrakala Thapa from athletics. Puja and Sumina were the joint winners in the women’s section last year.

The nominees for the LG youth PoY award include Chetan Ghimire and Ranjeet Shrestha from football, Kanishka Chaugain and Gyanendra Malla from cricket and Keshari Chaudhary from athletics.

Footballer Pradeep Maharjan was named the youth Player of the Year last year.

Shyam Thapa (football), Raju Shakya (football), Roy Luke Dias (cricket), Sushil Narsingh Rana (athletics) and Kiran Thapa (badminton) are the nominees in the coach’s section. There will be no competition for the lifetime achievement award as the winner will be declared during the programme, the NSJF said on Sunday.

The winners will receive Rs 10,000 each along with gift hampers from LG, Water Shop and Buddha Air.
