Olympian lifter Adhikari wins gold

Olympian Kamal Bahadur Adhikari of Tribhuvan Army Club won the men’s 77kg weight category gold medal in the National Weightlifting Tournament here today.

Bhandari lifted 120kg in snatch and 153kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 273kg. His teammate Yagya Bahadur Saru came second with a lift of 212kg — 97kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk, while Nepal Police Club’s Prem Prakash Baishya lifted 118kg in clean and jerk and 90kg in snatch for a total lift of 208kg to finish third.

In 62kg event, TAC’s Raju Chaudhary won gold medal after lifting 193kg that included 86kg in snatch and 107kg in clean and jerk. NPC’s Mui Lama also lifted a total weight of 193kg — 85kg in snatch and 108kg — but finished second. APF Club’s Subash Kumar Shah came third with a lift of 73kg in snatch and 90kg in clean and jerk for a total of 163kg.

In 69kg, NPC’s Bikash Thapa lifted a total weight of 237kg —106kg in snatch and 125kg in clean and jerk to finish first. Prakash KC of Banke came second with a lift of 236kg — 130kg in clean and jerk and 106kg in snatch, while his teammate Suraj Baishya was third with 185kg — 80kg in snatch and 105kg in clean and jerk.

In women’s events, TAC’s Manita Shrestha bagged gold in the 63kg with the total of 140kg — 60kg in snatch and 80kg in clean and jerk. Her teammate Sarada Chaudhary came second with 128kg — 56kg in snatch and 72kg in clean and jerk.

In 69kg section, NPC’s Rajya Laxmi Thapa lifted 143kg — 60kg in snatch and 83kg in clean and jerk — to finish first, while TAC’s Usha Khadka lifted 52kg in snatch and 70kg in clean and jerk to win silver.

In 75kg event, NPC’s Laxmi Ban won gold medal with 142kg in total that included 62kg in snatch and 80kg in clean and jerk. TAC’s Man Kumari Kumal came second with 58kg in snatch and 76kg in clean and jerk. In 90kg section, NPC’s Tara Devi Pun was the lone participant and she lifted a total weight of 167kg — 70kg in snatch and 97kg in clean and jerk.
