BAJURA, OCTOBER 11

Flood in the Karnali River has washed away more than a dozen suspension bridges over the Karnali River in Humla, Mugu, Bajura, Kalikot, Achham, and Dailekh districts.

Locals informed that flood had swept away three bridges over the Karnali in Bajura. Flood water also turned arable land barren in the district.

According to local teacher Dhan Bahadur Dhami, flood has washed away the suspension bridge linking Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality with Jagannath Rural Municipality. Movement of people of wards 1 and 2 of Swamikartik and wards 3, 4 and 5 of Jagannath rural municipalities has been obstructed after the bridge was swept away.

Police say that flood has damaged and washed away suspension bridges at Bajura's Pilichaur, Kawadi, Berma, and Kabdi.

Flood has washed away some bridges in Humla and Jumla, said local Karna Bahadur Malla. The flood has swept away the bridge that connects Bajura's Jagannat with Kalikot hindering people's movement.

District Police Office, Bajura, said that flood had washed away many bridges but the exact number of bridges swept away was yet to be ascertained. Around a dozen suspension bridges are at high risk of flood and landslide in Bajura.

Experts say as the suspension bridges are old and dilapidated most of them are at high risk of flood and landslide in Bajura.
