Paneru clinches men’s singles title

Pashupati Paneru defeated Balaram Thapa 14-4, 17-15 in the men’s singles title of the third Birthday Badminton Tournament, organised by Himalayan Badminton Club to mark the 58th birthday of King Gyanendra concluded here today. Crown Prince Paras gave away prizes to the winners. In the women’s doubles, Puja Shrestha and Samjhana Khaling beat Bina Tulachan and Krishna Pun 15-1, 15-11 and won the title. Balaram Thapa and Puja Shrestha bagged the mixed doubles title beating Pashupati Paneru and Sumina Shrestha 15-2, 15-2.

In the men’s doubles, Balaram Thapa and Indra Mahata outplayed Pankaj Chand and Ram Singh Chaudhari 15-1, 15-10 to win the title. Saradevi Tamang was adjudged the best player of the tournament. On Saturday, Saradevi Tamang defeated Sumina Shrestha to bag the women’s singles title, others winners include: Chandra Shekhar Lama and Pushpa Tamrakar in veterans mixed doubles, Prajwol Jung Rana (junior singles).
