Paneru wins three gold medals

Pashupati Paneru won three gold medals at the fourth Birthday Cup Open Badminton Tournament organised by Himalaya Badminton Club to mark the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra, today. The Mahendra Police Club shuttler outplayed Pankaj Chand of Armed Police Force 15-10, 15-8 to win the men’s title and also bagged Rs 63,000. With the win, Paneru also completed his hat-trick in the event. In women’s final, MPC’s Sara Devi Tamang beat APF’s Puja Shrestha 11-6, 7-11, 11-7 and pocketed Rs 21,000 for the win. Also, Sahadev
Khadka downed Saurav KC 15-11, 15-2 in junior singles final and bagged Rs 13,000. In men’s doubles, the duo of Pankaj and Indra Mehata beat the duo of Pashupati and Ram Singh Chaudhari 15-7, 4-15, 17-15; while the duo of Puja and Samjhana Khaling beat the duo of Bina Tulachan and Krishna Pun 15-1, 15-0 to win in women’s doubles. The duo of Pashupati and Sara Devi won mixed doubles award beating the duo of Indra and Puja 11-15, 15-10, 15-1. All the winners recieved Rs 38,000. In Veterans doubles, the duo of Kumar Mohan Bikram Shahi and JB Chand overwhelmed the duo of Pushpa Tamrakar and Madhav Thapa of APF 13-15, 7-15, 15-13. Crown Princess Himani gave away prizes to the winners of the event.
