LONDON: Wayne Parnell struck twice to send back Andre Fletcher and captain Chris Gayle early as West Indies started their chase of 184 for victory.

Dwayne Bravo and Lendl Simmons however went on to do the repair work and tried to consolidate the innings. But after a brief innings Bravo got out.

Simmons, though, held on to his wicket, but at the other end Shivnarine Chanderpaul failed to sustain. That made West Indies' job tougher.

Simmons then fell after playing a brilliant knock but till the time he was there he kept alive West Indies chances.

West Indies task became tougher when Ramnaresh Sarwan also followed his teammate back in the paviilion.

West Indies just kept on losing wicket after that and West Indies could manage to reach 163 for nine, falling short of 20 runs.

Earlier, riding on fine batting by the top-order, South Africa posted a competitive total of 183 for seven in their alloted 20 overs.

South African openers -- Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis got off to a good start after they were put into bat by the West Indies in their Super Eight match on Saturday.

However, Captain Graeme Smith's fine innings of 18-ball 31 came to an end when Sulieman Benn took his porized wicket.

But Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs continued to hit their shots well and the duo piled up runs as South Africa started to look set for a massive total.

When Kallis departed for a well-made 45 off 31 balls, the Proteas were in driver's seat and Gibbs continued in the able company of AB de Villiers.
