Karki clinches Indian Ambassador’s Cup

Kathmandu, May 13

Pavitra Kumar Karki won the title of the Indian Ambassador’s Cup here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, the 13-handicap amateur golfer Karki accumulated 40 points to finish first. Karki received iPhone 7 Plus and Callaway Great Big Bertha driver along with the trophy. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus finished second with 39 points on count back after he was tied with Prithivi Malla. Shrestha received Callaway Big Bertha 3-wood.

Tashi Tshiring won the gross section award on count back after he was tied on 38 points with Vijay Shrestha Einhaus. Tshiring received Callaway golf bag. Likewise, Brig Gen BB Thapa claimed the senior section trophy with 38 points. Dr Rita Thapa won the women’s section award with 17 points, while Erden Champy came second with 15 points.

Pemba Sherpa had the best front-nine score with 20 points, while Pemba Sherpa came up with the best back-nine score with 20 points. Both of them received trophies. Hridesh Singh won the longest drive award, while Ang Tshiring Sherpa claimed the closest-to-the-pin trophy and Norbu Sherpa carded four birdies to win the most birdies award. Also, Dr Bhek Bahadur Thapa and Dr Rita Thapa received trophies of the senior most golfers of the tournament.

In all, 80 golfers participated in the tournament organised by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu under the sponsorship of Nepal SBI Bank. Tata Motors, ISME Pvt Ltd and Pernod Ricard were the co-sponsors of the tournament.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Rajendra Chhetri, Managing Director of Gokarna Forest Resort Ang Tshiring Sherpa, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan and CEO of Nepal SBI Bank Anukool Bhatnagar handed over the prizes to the winners.
