Phidim Sporting Club defeated Him Star Club of Siraha 1-0 in the inaugural match of the Tuborg eighth Falgunanda Gold Cup Football Tournament here today.

SajanRai scored the solitary goal of the match which was enough for the hosts to seal the victory. Rai was named the man-of-the-match. On Saturday, Saino Sporting Club of Morang will play against Karna Singh Sonam Memorial Club of Taplejung.

A total of 10 teams, including one each from India and Bhutan, are taking part in the tournament organised by Phidim Sporting Club under the sponsorship of Gorkha Brewery. The winners will receive Rs 250,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 150,000. Earlier, State Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Shree Prasad Jabegu inaugurated the event.
