KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 9
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has instructed that the ongoing training programme aimed at securing double-digit medals, including gold, at the 20th Asian Games be continued.
During a meeting held today with a team comprising National Sports Council (NSC) Member-Secretary Ram Charitra Mehta, Olympian Deepak Bista, National Team Preparation Director, and Deputy Director Deepak Shrestha, the Prime Minister directed officials to motivate athletes and ensure that no stone is left unturned in their preparations.
Prime Minister Karki also instructed Member-Secretary Mehta to arrange the necessary budgetary support and logistical facilities to prevent any shortcomings in the preparations for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan later this year.
The NSC has been providing specialized training to athletes from 11 teams across 10 different sports over the past two years, with the objective of winning medals.
As the budget allocated for the current fiscal year is sufficient to run the programme only until mid-February, Director Bista requested the Prime Minister to ensure funding for the remaining period.
Prime Minister Karki, who also holds the portfolio of Minister for Youth and Sports, has directed officials to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to make the required budgetary arrangements.
