Pokhara Rhinos thrash Kathmandu Kings XI by six-wicket

KATHMANDU: Pokhara Rhinos thrashed Kathmandu Kings XI by six-wicket to register second victory of the TVS Everest Premier League played at the TU Cricket Stadium, Kirtipur, on Friday.

Pokhara Rhinos won the toss and opted to bowl first in the seaming track. Rhinos bowled out Kathmandu Kings XI for 98 runs and achieved the target by six wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Skipper Shakti Gauchan's decision to bowl first paid the dividends as strike bowler Bikram Sob took two wicket, one off the first ball of the innings by removing in-form batsman Amit Shrestha caught behind for golden duck and skipper Ferveez Maharoof off the fifth ball for another duck.

At one stage Kathmandu Kings XI were reeling at 2/1 in the first over.

Sagar Pun top scored with 36 runs off 47 balls with two fours and a six, Raju Rijal contributed 17 runs while Sompal Kami made 10 off 17 balls while other batsman failed to hit double digit runs.

Bikram Sob, skipper Shakti Prasad Gauchan and Suboth Bhari took two wickets each while Pakistani recruit Taj Wali and Israrullah chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, Pokhara Rhinos made a brilliant start, racing to 38 runs in the 5.4 overs before loosing Sunil Dhamala as the first wicket in the run chase.

Dhamala made 20 runs off 23 balls with two fours and a six.

Kathmandu Kings XI took two quick wickets for four runs and pegged back Rhinos in their run chase. However, skipper Gauchan and Israrullah shared an unbeaten 37 runs for the fifth wicket to take their team home.

Man of the match Israrullah remained unbeaten on 45 balls off 48 balls with three fours and two fours.

Sagar Pun bagged two wickets and Bikram Bhushal took a wicket.

With today's victory, Pokhara Rhinos has climbed to third spot in the points table.
