KATHMANDU, JANUARY 13
Prince Dahal has created history in Nepali badminton by becoming the world's top junior badminton player.
Dahal, who is 19 years old, has risen to the top of the Badminton World Federation's list of men's juniors for the first time. He earned 10,500 points to win the top position of junior badminton title. This is Nepal's most important international accomplishment to date in badminton.
Justin Whoha of Malaysia is now ranked second in the Federation's rankings with 9,590 points in total.
Dahal moved up to 32nd place in the global rankings for the first time in 2019. He rose to tenth place in the world rankings for 2020. Later, in 2019 and 2021, he rose to the seventh and third positions, respectively.
Dahal began playing badminton when he was five years old and is currently studying at grade 11 in Lagankhel. He said that now that he has been awarded the best junior player in the world, his dream has come true and that he would work hard to defend the title and prepare for adult badminton events.
"My further attention will go to keep the title and also continue to perform well even in a senior badminton tournament in future", Dahal was quoted as saying by RSS after he was announced the top junior badminton player.
Dahal stated that tournament possibilities and training are limited in Nepal while asking state agencies to create a climate that allows players to thrive in the country.
Similarly, Rasila Maharjan has risen to 19th place in the Federation's rating for the women's junior division.
