Malla wins Surya Nepal Monthly Medal title

Kathmandu, July 22

Prithvi Malla won the fifth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Golf Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format, the one-handicap amateur golfer Malla scored four-under 68 to claim the nett category trophy. Devendra Bajgai came second on count back after he was tied on two-under 70 with Pravakar Adhikari, who finished second runner-up and also won the special prize for Hole-in-One on Hole No 5.

Purna Bahadur Rai won the gross section trophy with the score of nine-over 81, while Sam Doublard claimed the junior category title with the score of four-under 68 nett. A total of 30 golfers took part in the tournament. President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.

After five rounds, Rabindra Tiwari is at the top of the nett category table with 240 points, while Malla climbed up to second with 150. Pavitra Karki (130), Gopal Chitrakar (120) and Joseph Nathan (110) are in top five. In gross section, Malla is the leader with 400 points, while Chitrakar is a distant second on 225. Robin Rana is third with 100 points, followed by Rabindra Tiwari (90) and Ang Tsering Sherpa (70).

Likewise, Sam Doublard is at the top of the junior section with 335 points, while Arnav Shah is second with 285. Phurba Sherpa (210), Tanush Sanghai (200) and Mayanka Dahal (60) are in top five. A total of 10 monthly medal rounds will be played until December. Top 40 in nett section and 10 each in gross and junior categories will make it to the club championship finals which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
