Pro Lama leads team to Pro-Am victory in tie-breaker

Pro Sanjay Lama led his team to victory in the Surya Nepal Eastern Open Pro-Am tournament here at the Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort today.

Lama and his team of amateur players SSP Rajendra Shrestha, Santosh Karki, and Shekhar Limbu accumulated 136 points to win the trophy in tie-breaker after they were tied with Shiva Ram Shrestha’s team. As per the tie-break rule, the points scored by three amateur players in both the sides were added and Lama’s team had the better total.

Lama scored 34 points, while his teammates SSP Shrestha was the top scorer with 37 points and Karki and Limbu earned 34 and 31 respectively. Top pro Shrestha accumulated 36 points, while the amateurs in his team Uttam Rai (35), Arun Rai (33) and Sumod Bastakoti (32) helped him tie with Sanjay’s team before losing on count back. The team of pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti (34) and amateurs Rohit Acharya (36), Biren Limbu (33) and Ritesh Tamang (31) came third with 134 points.

SSP Shrestha (37) and Bina Sapkota (28) were the best scorers, while Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi claimed the closest-to-the-pin trophy and Sundar Rai got the longest drive award. A total of 48 players, 12 pros and 36 amateurs, participated in the tournament played under stableford full handicap format. Chairman of Nirvana Country Club Shashi Ram Bhandari, Assistant Brand Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Rajat Thapa, President of Sunsari District Golf Association Dal Bahadur Rai among others gave away the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, professional golfers Rame Thapa and Ramesh Nagarkoti, who scored Hole-in-One in the first round of the main event on Wednesday, were awarded with Rs 2,500 each. Bhuwan Nagarkoti won the third

event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2015-16 with the total score of four-under 206. Nepal No 1 pro Shivaram Shrestha was one shot behind at second place, while Sanjay Lama was third at even-par 210.
