Tiwari wins third edition title of Monthly Medal

Kathmandu, May 27

Rabindra Tiwari carded an eight-under 64 to win the third edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal Golf Tournament here today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club, the 13-handicap amateur golfer Tiwari produced the best card of the day to claim the trophy. Ang Tshiring Sherpa came second with the score of four-under 68 nett, while Robin Rana finished third on count back after he was tied on two-under 70 with Gopal Chitrakar, Sameer Acharya and Prabhakar Adhikari.

Prithivi Malla won the gross section title with the score of three-over 75, while Arnav Shah bagged the junior category award on count back after he was tied on four-over 76 with Sam Doublard.

In all, 37 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.

After the third edition, Rabindra Tiwari continues to lead in nett category with 235 points, while Joseph Nathan is second with 100 points, followed by Gopal Chitrakar (95) and Prabhakar Adhikari (65). Ang Tshiring Sherpa and Hem Kumar Tamang shared the fifth position with 60 points.

In gross section, Prithivi Malla moved to the top of the table with 200 points, while Gopal Chitrakar is second with 190 points. Ang Tshiring Sherpa is third with 70 points, while Ang Dendi Sherpa and Rabindra Tiwari are tied at fourth with 60 points. Likewise, Sam Doublard maintained his lead in junior section with 195 points, while Phurba Sherpa is second with 175 points and Arnav Shah climbed up to third with 165 points.

A total of 10 medal rounds will be played till December with top 40 players in nett, 10 in gross and five in junior sections making it to the Club Championships, which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
