Rai and partner win Valentine Golf

Sandhya Rai and partner Kalpana Limbu won the ‘Playing Partners’ category title at the Valentine Golf Tournament 2005, organised by Royal Nepal Golf Club, here today.
The couple of Machhindra B Rai and Kaushi Maya Rai came second. Dil Gurung won the best gross award. In this section, both the golfers were the members of RNGC.
In non-playing partners section of the fun tournament with one player from RNGC, Siddheshwor Kumar Singh and his partner Prema RLD Singh emerged victorious.
Madan Rana and his partner Prabin Yakthumba came second. R M Shrestha’s partner Prabisti Shrestha won the ‘Good Putter’ award, while P B Rana’s partner Chhaya RLD Rana came second.
In special prizes, P K Shrestha and Sandhya Rai won the ‘Hole In Heart’ awards. In junior section, Prabin Yakthumba won he ‘Children Putting’ award and Shreya Basnet finished runner-up.
Rupy Singh, the former lady captain of RNGC, won the ‘Best Dressed for Valentine’ award. Prema RLD Singh won the ‘Guest Putting’ award and Prabisti Shrestha came second.
RNGC Captain Deep B Basnet and Lady captain Shastika Shrestha won the Longest Drive awards, while Prativa RLD Rana won the ‘Charming Lady’ award.
Pacific in quarters:
Kathmandu: Bikram Joshi netted 14 points as Pacific Academy thrashed Guheshwori 27-5 and entered the senior boys’ quarter-finals at the fourth Gyan Niketan Big Mimi Inter-school Basketball Tournament today. In other matches, New Shrine defeated Brihaspati Vidya Sadan 43-32 with Prem Bogati netting 19 points; and Kapil Rokaya scored 16 points but could not save Suryodaya from going down 37-34 to Valley Public School. The winners advanced to the round of last eight. Also, BRL beat Jagat Mandir 47-14 with Arjuni Limbu netting 20 points.
In junior boys’ section, Milan Vidya Mandir defeated Araniko School 22-17 in over time after both teams were tied at 16 points each. Anand Thapa of Araniko top-scored with 15 points and Sujan Maharjan contributed 14 for the winners.
KEC Running Trophy:
Kathmandu: Hosts Kantipur Engineering College (KEC) ‘blue’ defeated ACEM by 65 runs and Kathmandu Engineering College beat KEC ‘red’ by 15 runs in the Kantipur Running Trophy Inter-technical College Cricket Tournament today.
With the win, KEC ‘blue’ and Kathmandu Engineering College advanced to the Super League.
Batting first, KEC accumulated 171 runs losing seven wickets in 25 overs. Man of the match Rajeev Shrestha scored 42 off 41 balls including two fours and a six. Opener Deependra Dangol scored 40 off 46 balls including four hits to the fence, while Imran Khan scored a quick fire 39 off 21 balls including six fours.
In reply, ACEM were packed off for 106 runs in 24.2 overs. Amit Tamang scored 28 runs.
In the other match, Rocky Shrestha top-scored with 52 runs as Kathmandu Engineering College scored 135 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 23.1 overs. Shrestha hit seven fours and a six in his 50-ball innings. Sanjeev Neupane scored 19 off 33 balls.
In reply, KEC ‘red’ could score 120 runs in 24.3 overs. Abhishek Dangol scored 39 runs including four hits to the fence. Rabik Shrestha of Kathmandu Engineering College was adjudged man of the match.
