KATHMANDU: Nepal No 1 professional golfer Sukra Bahadur Rai shared the 15th position in the Vizag Open at the East Point Golf Club in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
Rai carded even-par 72 in the final round for the total score of even-par 288 and moved five places up - his best finish in the Professional Golf Tour of India - in the INR 10 million event. He shared the 15th place with Indian pros Aman Raj and Anshul Patel and they earned INR 145,200 each.
Rai, who made a flying start carding four-under 68 and played even-par 72 in the second round, faltered to four-over 76 on the third day. On Saturday, Rai carded one-under 35 on the front nine and played one-over 37 on the latter half. He carded a birdie on the second hole and saved pars on eight holes of the front nine.
After taking the turn, he carded a birdie on the 12th hole but faced bogeys on the 13th and 18th holes. Rai will now join the national team for the 19th Asian Games. The Nepali team is scheduled to travel to Hangzhou, China on Sunday.
