Monte Carlo, May 22:

Kimi Raikkonen in a McLaren-Mercedes led from start to finish for the second consecutive race to win the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. It was Raikkonen’s fourth career victory. Nick Heidfeld was second with third for Mark Webber, both in a Williams-BMW. Season points leader Fernando Alonso in a Renault was fourth, his first time out of the top three this season.

Raikkonen won the Spanish GP two weeks ago, and led the San Marino Grand Prix until a driveshaft problem knocked him out of that race. He was won poles in three straight races.

Alonso still leads the driver standings with 49 points. Raikkonen moved into second with 27 points — 20 points in the last two races.

Seven-time champion Michael Schumacher finished seventh. He is winless in seven straight races, his longest drought since joining Ferrari. His last win was in Japan last season.

The first 23 laps of the race were almost boring with no position changes among the top 15 cars. Raikkonen was gaining fractions of a second on the Renaults of Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella while the trio moved away from the rest by more than a second a lap. Raikkonen led Alonso by 5.4 seconds. Jarno Trulli, last year’s winner, in fourth was 22.3 behind in a Toyota.
