Rain disrupts tri-series

Colombo, August 14 :

Heavy monsoon showers disrupted the limited-overs cricket tri-series, washing out Monday’s opening match between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Match referee Chris Broad said the tri-series opener will now be played on Tuesday, the reserve day, and he voiced concern that the whole tournament may be disrupted because rain is forecast for the next three days.

Broad called off Monday’s play after heavy showers lashed Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium in the afternoon, interrupting the ground staff’s work to dry the already damp outfield after five days of rain. The tri-series, which also features India, is set to run until August 29.
