Rapid chess tourney
LALITPUR: FIDE Master Rupesh Jaiswal, Bijay Dangol and Chhitij Bhandari shared the lead after the third round of the Rapid Chess Tournament organised by Lalitpur District Chess Association in memory of sports journalist Suman Bhomjan, who was killed in the April 25 devastating earthquake. Former Nepal champion Nabin Tandukar, Bibek Thing, Himal Lama, FM Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Janardan Shrestha, Badrilal Nepali, Sajin Maharjan, and FIDE Master Bilamlal Shrestha are joint second with two points each.
Tennis selection
LALITPUR: Abhilasha Bista, Medhavi Giri and Era Raut began the Road To Singapore Qualifiers campaign with wins here on Friday. Bista defeated Khushi Pandey, Giri beat Prerana Koirala and Raut outplayed Saloni Tamang by identical scores of 8-1 in the U-14 section matches. A total of six players are taking part in the round-robin selection. The qualifying tournament will be held in U-16 girls’ category with four players in fray. The winners of both the sections will earn tickets to Singapore. Players from 18 nations will take part in the Road To Singapore tournament slated for October 19-25. All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association has formed a three-member selection committee under its General Secretary Manohar Das Mool. Coaches Surya Bhushan Bajracharya and Krishna Raj Ghale are the members of the committee.
