Tamang, Shrestha advance to quarter-finals

Ratnajit Tamang and Sichhya Shrestha advanced to the quarter-finals of the WBF Yonex Sunrise Nepal International Series here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.
In men’s singles category, Tamang defeated Amar Kaur of India in straight sets of 21-13, 21-19 to register his second straight victory and make it to the last eight.
In the first set, Tamang earned first point but went down by 9-11 at one stage. However, Tamang bounced back to make it 18-11 by earning nine consecutive points and won the set 21-13. Second set was quite competitive as both Tamang and Kaur went neck-to-neck until Tamang won four crucial points to take control of the set after 11-all. Tamang had defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan Saeed Bhatti 21-16, 25-23 on Tuesday. Tamang will face another Indian opponent Siddharath Thakur, who defeated Quang Huy Dang of Vietnam 21-8, 21-13, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Dipesh Dhami, who earned a walkover win from Indonesia’s Imam Adi in the first round, suffered a 21-13, 21-12 defeat against Vietnam’s Duc Phat Le.
In women’s singles, Sichhya Shrestha recorded a hard-fought 22-20, 19-21, 21-17 victory over Alina Sultana of Bangladesh to earn a place in the last eight. Shrestha will next play against Vietnam’s Thuy Linh Nguyen.
Likewise, Amita Gurung went down to Aghaei Hajiagha Soraya of Iran 21-6, 21-13, while Nangsal Devi Tamang suffered a 21-18, 21-19 defeat at the hands of Mahoor Shazad of Pakistan.
In men’s doubles, the pair of Deepak Bohara and Bhugol Gurung was defeated 21-18, 9-21, 21-13 by Bangladesh’s Hussein Zayan Shaheed and Nasheeu Sharafuddeen, while Dipesh Dhami and Ratnajit Tamang went down to Bangladeshi duo of Mohammad Anamul Haque and Moajjam Hossain by 18-21, 21-16, 21-6.
Similarly, the pair of Irfan Ansari and Sanjeev Khadka lost 21-9, 21-10 against Indian pair of Arun George and Saurabh Sharma, while Josef Adhikari and Suman Limbu faced a 17-21, 21-9, 21-9 defeat against Mohammad Salman Khan and Tushar Krishna Roy of Bangladesh. Bijeet Thapa Magar and Bishnu Katwal suffered a 21-14, 21-10 defeat against Vietnam’s Quang Huy Dang and Duc Giang Nguyen.
