Rato Bangala, RIBS win titles

Skipper Prayag Gurung’s 30 points helped Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS)

overwhelm Sambotta High School 72-44 in the boys’ final of the Campion Inter-school Basketball Tournament organised by Campion Associates to mark its 10th anniversary. In the girls’ section, skipper Neha Chaudhary top-scored with 25 points as Rato Bangala School outplayed Gyanodaya Bal Batika School 49-19 to win their first title against GBBS in five meets.

RIBS took a seven-point lead in the first quarter and dominated the field in other three quarters also. By the end of the second quarter, RIBS were leading 40-17, thanks to MVP Robin Khatri’s 10; Prayag Gurung’s eight; and Ajay Thapa’s six points. RIBS players added four more points to their lead margin in the third quarter, making it 52-33. Tenzing Lunthok and Tenzing Lobsel scored six points each and Urgen had four points for Sambotta while RIBS’ Prayag Gurung netted eight points in the third quarter. In the last quarter, RIBS boys added 20 points restricting Sambotta players to just 11.

In the girls’ final, Rato Bangala skipper Neha Chaudhary, who was later declared the Most Valuable Player, scored 10 points. Gyanodaya girls dominated the field for the first three minutes, thanks to Zannat Shrestha. But RBS players bounced back and succeeded in taking a 17-7 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Ruchma Limbu had four points and Sabina Pokharel netted two points to give GBBS a total of 13 points. Rato Bangala players added 10 more points by the end of the first 16 minutes. Neha Chaudhary netted four points for Rato Bangala. The third quarter saw Gyanodaya adding only two points, whereas Rato Bangala ended up with six, making it 33-15. Rato Bangala players put the issue beyond doubt scoring 16 points in the last quarter while Gyanodaya added only four points. Academic Director of Campion Associates Deepak Thapa gave away prizes.
