Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have bagged two points in the season opener of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) after defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) in a nail-biting last ball finish.
Batting first, the MI has posted a decent total of 159 runs at the expense of 9 wickets which the RCB succeeded in chasing and won by 2 wickets after Harshal Patel whipped away a yorker for a single.
RCB's veteran AB de Villiers, 37, yet again proved his mettle by quick firing 48 off 27 deliveries as MI's losing streak in the opening games of the tournament continues for the ninth consecutive season.
Medium-pacer Patel dented five Mumbai wickets with his skillful change of pace between deliveries and only expended 27 runs.
Australian right-handed batsman Chris Lynn who took to the crease as MI's opener fell one short of a 50 after smashing 49 off 35 balls.
On Saturday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings will go head to head with the Delhi Capitals (DC) which is led by a new captain, Rishabh Pant, in the Mumbai-based Wankhede Stadium.
