Referee Amatya manhandled

Lalitpur, September, 18:

The Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League match between Kumari Club and Kathmandu Club was called off after 34 minutes when Kumari skipper Bikash Gurung manhandled referee Sachin Amatya here at the FIFA Technical Centre on Thursday.

Gurung resorted to violence after referee Amatya gave him the marching orders in the 34th minute following the skipper’s second bookable offense. The stadium turned into a battlefield as other Kumari Club players along with their supporters joined in to attack Amatya. ANFA officials intervened and cancelled the match.

Match commissioner Birat Jung Shahi said he informed the incident to the disciplinary committee which would look into the matter on Friday.

Meanwhile, Birgunj Youth Academy annihilated Tushal Youth Club 6-0 in another match today. Sanaru Ullah Ansari opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Ishwor Chaudhary and Ritu Shakya added two goals each. Krishna Shakya wrapped up the proceedings adding the sixth goal of the match one minute into the second half injury time.

With the day’s result, Birgunj lie second in the table with 12 points from five matches, two points behind leaders Swoyambhu Youth Club. Tushal have three points from four games. Himalayan Sherpa Club will take on Swoyambhu and Sano Gaucharan will face Bansbari Club on Friday.
