Royal Basketball Team and Xavier International registered victories in the first Royal National Level (U-23) Basketball Tournament here on Sunday.

The hosts defeated Kirtipur Basketball Team 88-60 in the inaugural match riding on 21 points from Nikesh Rawal. Royal took a 22- 18 lead in the first quarter before Kirtipur reduced the deficit to one point by winning the second period 21- 18. Royal extended the lead to 11 points in the third quarter, which ended at 24- 14, and dominated the final period 24-7. Sudeep Poudel of Royal was named the man of the match.

In another game, Xavier recorded a 61-58 victory over Himalayan White House College. Xavier fell 13 points behind by the end of first two quarters after White House won 14-10 and 20-11.

But Xavier bounced back in the third period winning it 23-8 and they took the final quarter 17-16 to walk away with narrow win. Samrat Bumi top scored for Xavier with 22 points and he also bagged the man-of-thematch award.

A total of eight teams, also including Times International College, Jhilimili Baskeball Club, Dharan Megha College and Solo Basketball Academy, are taking part in the tournament organised by Royal Sports Central. The winners will receive a running trophy along with Rs 50,000.
