SUNSARI, MARCH 21
The Dharan Open Golf Championship is teeing off here at the par-70 Dharan Golf Club on Wednesday.
A total of 65 golfers - 45 pros and 20 amateurs - will take part in the second event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021, informed Dharan Golf Club Secretary Jitendra Rai at a press meet today.
The tournament, to be hosted by Dharan Golf Club under the auspices of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, carries a cash purse of Rs 500,000. The pro event will be played over 54 holes, while the Pro-Am tournament will be held on the final day. The winner of the professional event will receive Rs 90,000, while others in top 21 will also get their share of the cash prize.
According to the organisers, the event is supported by Nepal Golf Association and Nepal Professional Golf Association while Magic Footwear, RC Cola and Himalayan Reserve are the co-sponsors. The NPGA, which has included just five events in the season hit by the COVID-19, scrapped this year's Surya Nepal Western Open.
"The golfers of Dharan are excited with the announcement of the tournament as they have not been able to play for a long time due to coronavirus pandemic," said Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Tilak Rai, who is also the vice-president of NGA. "The Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City will always support for the continuation of the tournament," he said.
