The Dharan Open Golf Tournament is teeing off here at the Dharan Golf Club on Wednesday.

A total of 32 professional golfers including six local pros and 16 amateur players will take part in the second event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021.

The event, which carries a cash purse of Rs 500,000, is sponsored by Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, while the tournament is jointly organised by Professional Golf Association Nepal and Dharan Golf Club.

The main event will be played over 54 holes and cut will be applied for top 21 pros after the second round. At least six amateur golfers will make it to the final round. Top three pros will receive Rs 90,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 41,000 respectively, while others in top 21 will get their share of cash prizes.

"Top professionals and amateur golfers of the country have already arrived in Dharan and are getting acclimatised to the playing conditions of the beautifully laid out Dharan Golf Club at the Ghopa Camp," said the NPGA in a release. "The course, set in the midst of pine trees, is a piece of architecture laid by British Army officers. The course has been tweaked up for the tournament and will test skills of the best golfers in the country."

Thewinner of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open, Bal Bhadra Rai will be the player to watch in the event along with reining to pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Sanjay Lama, Rame Magar and local pro Sukra Bahadur Rai. Likewise, Niraj Tamang, Ritesh Tamang, Sunder Rai and Yubraj Bhujel are among the top amateurs vying for the trophy.

The tournament, which is supported by The Himalayan Reserve, RC Cola, and Magic Footwear, will conclude with the amateur golfers teaming up with the pros in the Pro-Am event on Saturday.
