Sunil Karki won the title of the Ang Tshiring Sherpa Memorial Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, the 18-handicap amateur golfer accumulated 41 points to finish first in the tournament which was organised to mark the second death anniversary of one of Ang Tshiring Sherpa - one of the pioneers in Nepal's civil aviation and tourism industry and founding Managing Director of Yeti Group - who was killed in a helicopter crash in Taplejung.

Along with the trophy, Karki received a package of breakfast for four persons at Yeti Mountain Home Kongde including helicopter ride on Air Dynasty. Tahir Shah came second with 40 points and he got a package of two nights and three days stay at Mala Lodge in Ghandruk for two persons on full board plan along with return tickets to Pokhara on Yeti Airlines.

Hridesh Kumar Singh won the gross category title on count back after he was tied on 34 points with Vijay Shrestha Einhaus. Singh received gift hamper of two nights and three days stay at Moksha Mustang for two persons on full board plan along with return tickets to Jomsom on Tara Air, while Einhaus got a package of two nights and three days stay at Mala Lodge for two persons and return tickets to Pokhara on Yeti Airlines.

Kashmira Shah won the women's section title with 38 points and she received a gift hamper of two nights and three days stay at Yeti Mountain Home (Khangri) for two persons and return tickets to Lukla. Gita Gurung came second with 32 points and she got a package of two nights and three days stay at Kasara Jungle Resort for two persons with return tickets to Bhadrapur on Yeti Airlines.

Likewise, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha bagged the senior section title with 36 points and Shayaan Basnet won the junior category trophy with 44 points. They received packages from Gokarna Forest Resort and Buddha Maya Garden Hotel in Lumbini respectively.

Tashi Tshiring Dong won the longest drive award, while Surendra Phuyal claimed the closest-to-the-pin trophy.

Dawa J Sherpa bagged the most birdies award with four birdies and an eagle. They received gift hampers from Yeti Group. Babu Sherpa claimed the special prize kept on Hole No 13, the favourite hole of Ang Tshiring Sherpa. He received return tickets to Dubai on Himalaya Airlines for hitting the shot closest to the pin from tee.

A total of 160 golfers took part in the two-day tournament organised jointly by Yeti Airlines, Tara Air and Gokarna Forest Resort. Himalaya Airlines, Air Dynasty, Yeti Mountain Home, Kasara Resort, Moksha Mustang and Ker, and Downey were the sponsors and partners of the event.

Chairman of Yeti Airlines Lakpa Sonam Sherpa, wife of Ang Tshiring Sherpa and Managing Director of Yeti Airlines Chanda Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer of Yeti Airlines Anoj Rimal, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, the organisers handed over Rs 320,000 raised from the registration fee of the tournament to two charitable organisations - Rs 160,000 each to Shanti Sewa Griha and World Vision International in Nepal.

Joshi aces Hole No 10, bags KIA Sonet

Suman Joshi achieved a rear feat of Hole In One on the second day of the Ang Tshiring Sherpa Memorial Golf Tournament at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.

The former CEO of Laxmi Bank, Joshi had the ace on par-3 Hole No 10 and he became the first Nepali golfer to do so in a social golf tournament as the achievement earned him a KIA Sonet car sponsored by KIA Motors.

Joshi dedicated the award to Sherpa. "I am short of words. I cannot express the feeling of winning this award," he said. "This is a fitting tribute to Sherpa who was a sports lover and an avid golfer," he said.
